Life Skills and Technical Skills for a Successful and Productive Future
A demanding program of vocational training and instruction in life and communication skills
trains parolees for successful reentry into the world of work and helps reduce Alabama prison overcrowding.
The LifeTech Institute teaches life skills and technical skills to help parolees make the transition from prison to society. Alabama Southern provides the education component of the program as well as statewide job placement services in coordination with business and industry. Housing and other components of the parole transition center are provided by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole.
This partnership is designed to reduce prison overcrowding by preparing deserving individuals for job success and life success, thereby also reducing the likelihood that they will return.

Vocational Training and Life Skills
Alabama Southern has created three six-week terms of study that lead to short certificates in high-demand programs including: Welding, Residential Electricity, Carpentry, Painting and Drywall, Introduction to Computers, and Masonry. The curriculum meets NCCER standards.

The transition program is demanding. Each parolee assigned to the center must meet obligations to participate in treatment, vocational and life skills training and also work at the center.
