The Fred Bryant Award was established by the Alabama Council on Crime and Delinquency in 1972 as a tribute to the organization’s first president.
Mr. Fred Bryant was a State Probation Officer in Anniston, Alabama, and
was known throughout this state as a man of dedication to the field of Corrections. He
was president of Alabama Council on Crime and Delinquency in 1948, 1949, and 1950.
At that time the organization was known as the Alabama Probation and Parole
Association. Nominees for the award are presented to the Awards Committee by
members of ACCD. Any member of ACCD can present a resume’ on a person the
member feels is worthy of the Fred Bryant Award. The Awards Committee selects three
candidates and presents these names to the Executive Committee. The Executive
Committee elects the person to receive the award by secret ballot. The Award has been
